On Saturday the 22nd of December the spotlight of the Ski World Cup will shine bright on the legendary Canalone Miramonti ski slope in Madonna di Campiglio. The 65th edition of the slalom skiing special is indeed set to take place on one of the most spectacular slopes of Campiglio’s circo bianco. The name of the race, Tre Tre, takes us back to the origins of the competition, which used to be held in three different villages in Trentino, before finding its ideal setting in the “Dolomite’s Pearl”, Madonna di Campiglio. History has been written on this slope by Gustav Thoeni, Ingemar Stenmark, Alberto Tomba and, recently, by Henrik Kristoffersen and Marcel Hirscher. The first round of the slalom skiing special will be at 3.45 PM, while the second one kicks off at 6.45 PM. Meanwhile there will be music, fun events and a torchlight procession by the Truppe Alpine, while at 7.30 PM there will be a party in Sissi square.
Let’s leave sport behind and dive into the Christmas spirit, starting with music. On Saturday, at Trento’s Diocesano Museum there will be a concert which is entitled Ninnaninà. The sound of bagpipes, accordions and bells will bring back the timeless charm of popular music. Christmas carols from the venetian and Tuscan tradition will be performed. It will be the right occasion for those wanting to visit the Museum’s spaces, which preserve artistic and religious objects of Trentino, inside what once was the bishop’s residence, next to the historical cathedral. At the ground floor there also is an exhibition of nativity scenes, which were created during the workshops held by the museum’s experts with the detainees of the town’s correctional facility.
Moving on to Sunday the 23rd of December, we advise the remake of one of Christmas’ classics, the “Nutcracker”, for ages 7 and up. The event takes place at the Portland theatre from 11 AM and at 4.30PM. During the show, the traditional fairytale is brought into the future. The main character Marie is portrayed as an adult woman which has forgotten her childhood’s toys. She finds them again exploring her home’s attic and with them relives all the dreams and plans she had left behind while growing up.
Let’s conclude with a show that promises to leave everyone in awe during the week of Christmas. We’re talking about the Gran Gala du Cirque, which will be staged at the Sociale theatre in Trento on the 24th and 28th of December. The stage will be invaded by some of the worlds’ greatest circus performers, protagonists of an art which lies between the suspense of classical circus and the charm of contemporary dance.
